I have talked to Apple Support a few times and searched the forums here and haven't found a solution to my problem.
The speakers that I have are Boston Acoustic BA7500G. I talked to Boston Acoustic and they stated that the speakers I have are 'digital only' and require a 16 bit resolution and 48khz sampling speed to operate properly. In talking to Apple Support, they have stated that the Mac Mini output sound is analog unless you use an optical cable (then it's digital). However, my speaker system can't handle an optical cable.
I've seen mention of a Griffin Firewave external sound card use on here that kind of sounds like it might work for me, but when I mentioned that to Apple, they said it wouldn't. I've also seen analog to digital audio converters on the internet costing hundreds of dollars, but I could buy new speakers for less.
Does anyone know of a reasonably priced way that I could convert the analog sound out of my Mac Mini so my digital only speakers will work with it?
